Dr Al-Issa’s humanitarian work goes beyond providing one-off relief, to building long-standing infrastructure. Support for the Ocean Viking has helped rescue over a thousand people from the Mediterranean; water security programmes have delivered close to 5,000 wells to communities across Somalia, Pakistan and beyond; and orphan care schemes provide tens of thousands of children in Egypt and Jordan with a monthly safety net. Alongside this sits a growing commitment to public health, from a global coalition to eliminate hepatitis to scholarship programmes training the doctors and midwives that vulnerable communities will need for decades to come.


Humanitarian initiatives map

● In 2026, MWL launched a new program training Afghan youth to lead community consultation and development initiatives across Afghanistan. ● MWL's engagement in Albania has focused on promoting peaceful coexistence, moderation and the positive civic participation of Muslim communities; its 2024 visit also included the launch of orphan-sponsorship projects. ● Convened a major post-war/genocide conference bringing religious and political leaders together to promote reconciliation and coexistence. ● Doctoral-level midwifery scholarship programme training 43 women, building long-term healthcare capacity ● Over 77,000 orphans receiving allowances and gifts ● UNHCR partnership: "Living, Learning, and Participating" programmes for displaced and at-risk youth ● Used academic and interfaith engagement—including the Oxford launch of its integration initiative—to promote positive citizenship and inclusion. ● MWL launched programmes to combat blindness, including an eye-surgery programme at the country's National Hospital. The organisation also launched relief programmes during Dr. Al-Issa's 2025 visit. ● Child-protection and psychosocial-support programmes reached displaced children and families, including through UNHCR cooperation. ● Mosque and community infrastructure projects serving over 14 million people ● 59,406 orphans receiving a standing monthly allowance ● Hosted a Youth for Peaceful Coexistence forum focused on youth leadership and intercommunity dialogue. ● Blindness-prevention programme, supported by solar-powered medical facility infrastructure ● MWL oversaw the opening of the Museum of the Prophet's Biography in Nouakchott, extending its international cultural and educational network into West Africa. ● MWL launched an orphan programme sponsoring 6,000 children, while its wider Malawi work includes one of its substantial water projects. ● Hosted the Second International Summit of Religious Leaders, using religious leadership as a mechanism for conflict resolution and coexistence. ● 393 mosque/community infrastructure projects serving almost 12 million people ● Joint child protection programme with Greece benefiting over 15,000 displaced children and families ● Malala Fund partnership directly supporting 1,100 female students ● Nearly 800 wells serving over 450,000 people ● MWL-supervised educational programmes produced 70,000 male and female Qur'an memorizers, while a separate agreement supports the restoration of widows' homes. ● UNHCR partnership supporting unaccompanied minors and victims of human trafficking, providing shelter and legal protection ● Developed an initiative promoting positive integration, civic responsibility and respect for national laws among Muslim communities. ● MWL signed a cooperation agreement with Tanzania's National Muslim Council to advance the Makkah Charter and its programmes. The country has also hosted major MWL Qur'anic initiatives. ● Emergency appeals and humanitarian service points established for those fleeing the war ● Water security: over 1,000 wells serving close to 762,500 people ● Separate water infrastructure programme bringing safe water to over 1.2 million people ● MWL distributed relief to people affected by floods and other disasters and launched projects to drill artesian wells in remote communities suffering from shortages of potable water. ●Participated in the UN Alliance of Civilizations, reinforcing the role of Islamic principles in international cooperation. ● Hosted/organised advocacy around Gaza, including a petition involving religious and human-rights leaders calling for an end to the war.
